It does as advertised (so refreshing in this day and age). I'll probably buy another one to squirrel away just in case. I couldn't comment (with stars) on the d60 because I use the d5000.

 "Made in china" 2009-12-19
By J. Beshur (Carnation, WA)
My Nikon Lithium Ion EN-EL9 7.4V came with camera and

lasted only two years. It held a charge well. No complaints

there. But this last time I did not use the camera for 3

months, came back and battery is dead. Perhaps the charger

is to blame, can't say. But I had a similar thing with a non-USA

hard drive for my 3 year old Mac laptop. The hard drive malfunctioned

and the repair man said even new ones don't work, now that they

are not made in USA. My freezer had a fan failure, but Frigidaire

sent me a new fan even though the system was out of warrenty.

The fan LOOKED the same, but the dye casting was poor on the

screw threads...there was no way to attach it with same screws.

So quality control on this battery and other Made in China items

is questionable. While I am at it: when my barn burned down the

fire department told me a lot of fires have been starting with

Chinese lamps. I had a new brooder lamp I hung the night

before the fire. Then my neighbor's house burned down, the

result of a new night light. She is a politician and was moved

to Washington D.C. before I got to ask her if the night light

was Chinese.

By Leslie F. Lewis (west sacramento, ca United States)
I decided to try the cheaper batteries for my Nikon P90. They DO NOT SPRING out of the camera like the original Nikon battery. On a couple occasions I had to extricate the cheapies like a bad tooth with a pair of needlenose pliers. I am now buying two extra Nikon brand batteries. The cheapos will act as spares in a pinch. I do lots of bird and nature pictures so need to be able to change out the battery quickly since I may shoot 10-20 pix of quackers in motion. I do not want to be fumbling with the no-namo battery and miss a shot. I love my P90. This is my first digital. I am learning that we have traded to expense of film and developing the cost of batteries. You wouldn't buy second rate film or pay for second rate developing on a film camera. Please do not by second rate batteries.

"Great quality but be careful at the TOTAL price if you want it for 8fps" 2010-01-24
By Pier
It is well built, it integrates very well into the camera (I have a D700), it feels solid and I personally like how the camera feels with the grip both for vertical and horizontal shoots.

However, take care of those few things:

1. If you just want to add a EN-EL3e battery, you can do that but to recharge the one on the camera, you have to remove the grip, because with the grip on, you can not have access to original battery

2. If you want to use the high-speed capacity of your camera, adding this grip (on D700) you need to but other parts... first of all you need another hi capacity battery like EN-EL4 (1900mAh) or EN-EL4a (2500mAh), then you need a new cover for that battery (EN-EL4/a) called BL-3 cover. Once you have all of those things, how do you recharge the EN-EL4 or EN-EL4a? You need another specific recharger (that won't work for your "old" EN-EL3e, so if you travel you will need both chargers or take just one type of battery) called MH-21 (or MH-22 able to recharge to EN-EL4/a batteries at the same time). If you buy all those stuffs you will spend about (Jan 2010 prices) $250 for the grip, $112 for the EN-EL4a, $39 for the BL-3 and $130 for the MH-21... total you will spend about $531 for the full package, which could be fine but just be aware about that!

Go to 8fps with AA batteries: you can do that buy they will last about 4x less than the EN-EL4a and when the charge starts to reduce, the camera won't go at 8fps...

Globally it is a great addition to the camera, it just look overpriced to me,

Good luck with your choice!

"Excellent Build Quality with Heavy Duty Weather Sealing" 2010-01-09
By L. Shi (Atlanta, GA)
It has excellent build quality and matches well with my D700. Without it, it's so hard to work with longer and heavier lenses. With it attached, D700 feels much better balanced ergonomically and this becomes particularly so in portrait (vertical) position. The max frame rate also becomes reality.

But one weakness is that the direction switch is not as smooth as the one on the camera body. And added weight to camera even without lens and battery is more than that of D3s that I also use.

 "I use on D300s and D700" 2009-12-21
By Charles Valenzuela
Lets me use the same EN-EL4 battery as my D3s so I only need one type and one charger. The AA battery tray was the real reason that I purchased this. You can't always find a place to charge a battery but they sell AA batteries at the Timbuktu Gas & Grocery, so you will always have the power you need, when you need it. This is especially true when you need a backup battery but didn't have time to charge the thing. A set of lithium AAs will store for seven years and always be ready when you need them. Max frames per second are available on AAs too as well as when using the EN-EL4 battery.

Removable when you don't need the portrait grip or additional battery capacity to keep camera size and weight to a minimum. As sturdy as the camera body and a very good fit. Certainly better than the old L shaped MB-series (MB-D100 & 200 especially) which were impossible to pack and a real pain to install.

 "Okay" 2010-02-15
By D. Dougherty
While this grip works as advertised,it is not comparable to the Nikon MB-D10 grip. The construction is very lightweight plastic and the fastener for the battery trays is fairly loose. This unit will not stand up to the type of rigorous use the D300/700 were designed for, but if you use it gently, this grip will perform fairly well.

For the price, I got what I expected. Had I been looking for a true MB-D10 alternative, I would have been disappointed.

 "good idea gone bad" 2010-02-07
By Penn Gname (MA, USA)
The Zeikos battery grip does provide the controls needed to shoot vertical. It also provides the camera's power while the battery it contains is charged. However, once the grip battery dies, you're dead in the water. Despite the fact that my Nikon D300 menu options are correctly set, the grip does not allow the camera's internal battery to take over. When the grip battery dies, the camera shuts down. At that point you either change/charge the battery in the grip OR remove the grip and use the battery in the camera. Either way, the grip has become, basically, an expensive and inconvenient extra battery holder. I can keep an extra battery in my bag for a lot less money and swap it in my camera with a lot less hassle.

I wrote to Zeikos customer service for a fix I was told they couldn't help me - I needed to read my camera manual. Not a lot of help there.

If you are considering this Zeikos grip, be aware that all you are buying is an adapter to shoot vertical. Even then, think about what you'll have to do to remove it when the battery dies (tripod adapter? camera connection cover? etc.) before you decide if it's worth it.

I'll be returning mine.

"Zeiikos Battery base for D700" 2010-01-23
By wbs (Alaska)
Ordered Zeikos base on November 24, 2009. I have only a couple of hundred shots on the camera. Today, my camera was not functional, indicating a low battery. I replaced the battery in the camera and in the Zeikos battery base, and it still indicates low battery, and will not function at all unless I remove the battery base. The battery used in the base indicates 98% when placed directly in the camera and not using the base. This is furnished by DB Roth. They indicate they have a "no return" policy due to low prices, and that I need to deal directly with the manufacturer. I sent an email (January 24, 2010)requesting a refund and an RMA, anyway. We will see what happens next week.

UPDATE: DB Roth offered a refund, minus shipping costs, minus 10% restocking fee (it doesn't work, what is to restock?) They claim it was almost three months old (61 days from time of order placed until time of complaint email.) I said that did not seem reasonable, so they gave me the Zeikos web site address. Also the technical details on this page are INCORRECT. The battery base DOSE NOT hold two batteries. It holds ONE battery, and the other is in your camera in the camera battery holder. Then you must specify in the setup which battery you want to use first.

I buy a lot of aftermarket items. This is the first one I have been burned on. I would recommend you do not buy this one.

 "No doubt about it!" 2010-01-08
By Elaine Brisson (Merrimack, NH)

After carefully going over all of the reviews, I purchased the Zeikos battery grip for my Nikon D300S. The camera immediately recognized both the new grip and the EN-EL3e battery. After performing a series of "does it work" functions, I am happy to report that all of the battery grip functions worked perfectly with the camera. Overall, the grip did not add any significant weight to the camera but it did significantly INCREASE THE STABILITY of the camera while in the handheld mode. The exterior of the Zeikos battery grip is a perfect match for the D300S and I suspect it would fool the eye of even the most seasoned pro.

If you are considering the purchase of this accessory for your camera, do not hesitate! There is no doubt in my mind that you will both appreciate and enjoy your decision.

Adds a good deal of bulk but does what you buy one of these for (added battery life). Also provides another shutter release and more area for gripping which are nice at times. I usually have this in the bag and pull it out when I know I will be taking a lot of shots. Some folks may just be better off buying an extra battery and carrying that around if they are at all worried about the bulk.

 "Highly recommend" 2009-12-05
By Chet (USA)
I've put a battery pack/vertical grip on every camera I've owned (film advance with 35mm). I like this model best. It allows you to shoot with 2 of the Nikon rechargeable batteries giving you twice the power and also allows you to view the current charge capacity of each via the menu/LCD screen. You can also use AA batteries but The "Magic Lantern Guide" recommends using the Nikon batteries for best performance and I agree. In addition to providing a better grip it also provides an additional shutter release button on the side when turned for vertical photos.

If there is a negative it would be that the grip adds a bit more weight but that is not an issue to me as the D80/D90 is smaller/lighter than full frame DSLRs anyway.

 "It Delivers" 2009-11-24
By Paul E. Petrino (Massachusetts)
I am thoroughly pleased with the MB-D80, which I use on the D90. I like the convenience of carrying both batteries so I never need to worry about running down or worse yet running out. The battery insert that comes with this product to use regular type batteries is a plus, as I always carry a pack for the SB-900 Flash and in a pinch could use it for the camera or the obvious if you are away and needed to power up in an emergency any local store should have batteries. That being said after only a few days of using this product I was surprisingly acclimated to it. For portrait orientation it is fantastic, and is arguably the biggest pro of this product. It does completely away with the awkwardness of pushing buttons in portrait orientation for a camera designed by default for landscape orientation. I didn't really notice a difference in button tension, etc as some have mentioned - maybe after a break in period that will change. But seamless transition for landscape to portrait. On the down size it does increase overall bulk and weight. However, in the same breath the camera is very, very well balanced and you only notice it as I've been shooting without it for over a year. Now that I've been using this product for a few months I hardly notice that it is any different. It is also very easy to put on or take off - less than a minute. Very pleased with this product.
