     "Well worth the money." 2009-12-30
    By Allen Pierson (Buckhannon, WV)
I bought this lens as a birthday gift for my wife. We use it with our Canon Digital Rebel XT and it works perfectly. The lens has a very good picture quality and is very easy to attach/remove from the camera. Of course, it comes with lens covers for both ends of the lens and they are very good quality covers; actually, IMO, better than the lens covers that our Canon lens came with. They stay on well and provide great protection for traveling.

The lens has a switch on it to go from normal photography to macro shots. Overall, I was impressed with the quality and ease of use with macro photos with this lens. It is easy to take good quality macro shots with this lens (and trust me, I'm a beginner!).

Overall, I am very well pleased with this lens and think you will be too!

     "JUNK!!!" 2009-12-08
    By D. Fanelli (USA)
Save yourself the trouble. I purchased this lens to use for some basic shots around the house during the Holidays. First, every photo is very soft in the corners. You need to crop the edges away or darken the outer portions of the photo to be usable. More troubling, the AF motor stopped working after aprox 75 shots. Just stopped working and has only a faint clicking noise. Junk!! Going back after 2 days and 75 shots...

Bought the Nikon 55-200mm AF-S VR today for $50 more and it's sharper, has better contrast and colors, and since it's a Nikkor lens, it should make it past 75 photos.

You get what you pay for, get the Nikon...

Love this lens! I have a Sony DSLR and a Minolta SLR and I love that I can use the lens on both. Picture Quality is great. The lens is heavy, but what do you expect, it's huge.

"Nice image quality, Autofocus stops working" 2009-11-28
    By valleyblog (Western Massachusetts)
Let me start by saying this is a great lens for the money as far as image quality and macro features and most reviews here are accurate. But apparently they didn't have the disapointing problem I ran into. After only about 3 days of normal use the autofocus failed and would only turn in one direction. I sent it back for an exchange (Amazon did the exchange with no hassle) and the replacement worked fine for a few days of shooting high school football and wildlife. But then lo and behold, the exact same thing happened again! I don't think it's the camera (Nikon D40) as my 3 other autofocus lenses work fine, and I checked/ cleaned the contacts. The lens was used gently with no rough impact or banging, it just stopped working while shooting pictures. The lens seems to be clicking and struggling to turn in the other direction and appears to be draining the battery doing it, as the lo battery indicator comes on while trying to focus. Then I read a review on the web that said the motor on the Sigma might be too torquey for the plastic gearing, stripping it. I really like the lens's image performance and thought about keeping it anyway, but unfortunatley am going to have to just return it, as 160 bucks is a little too much for a manual focus only lens.

 "Great lens" 2010-01-27
By James Frick (Traverse CIty, Michigan USA)
This is an excellent all purpose lens. It has reasonable speed, but I wish it was a little faster, but I could have spent a lot more money for that speed. Very workable lens for my casual needs. The vibration reduction feature is excellent, I love that. Excellent price as well - very happy with the lens and the purchase overall.

"Nikon 55-200 VR Nikkor Zoom Lens" 2009-12-20

I just got this as a gift yesterday and I am very pleased with it. The pictures are crisp and clear and the closeups from distant shots are impressive. I would like to test it out more but for now I am impressed with it.

 "Love the lens" 2009-11-27
By Visaharaja Ravindar
I bought this item after reviewing previous ratings and a LOT of research as I was concerned about the budget. Initially my plan was to buy the 70-300 mm Non VR lens. It was within my budget and was thinking 300mm would help me to cover more distance.

But after reading reviews and comparisons I chose 55-200mm VR.

Reasons:

1. VR helps me a lot as I am interested in taking Sunset/Sunrise and do not have a dedicated external flash.

2.100mm doesn't make big difference. Read a quote by Ansel Adams "Best wide-angle lens? 'Two steps backward' and 'look for the ah-ha'" mentioned in Kenrockwell page.

So thought, for 300mm I need to move forward few steps, ha ha.

3. Have Nikon D40 so wanted a lens which works in AF mode. 70-300mm doesn't.

So bought in Oct, love this and its awesome. Except the add-ons, they are not very good quality materials. But this deal is cheaper than the lens in other sites.

Thanks for people who wrote the reviews....

BTW, the lens makes some noises while auto focusing and (releasing shutter if VR is on), and its normal.

 "Great Beginner Zoom Lens" 2009-11-24
By Kenneth Eaton (Ann Arbor, MI)
Overall, I'm quite happy with this lens. I just bought my first DSLR about 2 months ago (the D3000) and bought this about one month ago. Since I've only had it for a short time, I can't speak for its longevity, but from what I found in my research it looks like these will last a long time if you're careful with them. The all plastic construction was one concern I had before buying it, but after holding one and getting to use it, it does feel solid and built well for a $200 zoom lens.

The VR definitely comes in handy with this, too. The zoom power actually took me by surprise. Obviously I'm new to SLR photography, but it was a pleasant surprise to see just how close you can get to your subject with this lens. I'm very happy with this purchase.

 "Great Product" 2009-11-16
By Anthony Armijo (Menifee, CA)
Works good, got it refurbished for $180 but it would have been nice if it went to 250 or 300mm zoom rather than just 200 but it works great for the price. I am still able to get good pictures in amateur soccer games.

 "Light and Sharp!" 2009-11-10
By YakButter (Orange, Ca)
What a wonderful lens!

I bought this on a whim. I had the 18-200 VR, but I knew if it's shortcomings resolution-wise.

I read a lot of great reviews for this lens and figured for $200, why not?

I was blown away at how sharp this sucker is! It is incredibly light and small as well.

Obviously for night use, it will need a super steady hand or a tripod, as it is not 2.8... but during the day and dusk it is exceptional. The VR REALLY helps a lot.

Alsom the 200mm is more real than the 18-200's 200mm, if that makes sense. I did a side-by-side test and this lens went a tad further. Weird, huh?

For outdoor sports, landscapes, etc. this lens is a MUST BUY for telephoto work.

Did i mention that it is really sharp, even wide open.

 "Nice mid range lense" 2009-10-16
By Richard H. Miller
I picked this up for taking photos at my daughters soccer games and I have not been disappointed. In bright sunlight it is great for capturing rapid action sequences of photos from the sidelines - making for some fantastic action shots. In less than optimal lighting, it wont rapid fire, but still takes nice quality photos - I just have to time it better. Good solid purchase.
