 "Okay" 2010-02-15

While this grip works as advertised,it is not comparable to the Nikon MB-D10 grip. The construction is very lightweight plastic and the fastener for the battery trays is fairly loose. This unit will not stand up to the type of rigorous use the D300/700 were designed for, but if you use it gently, this grip will perform fairly well.

For the price, I got what I expected. Had I been looking for a true MB-D10 alternative, I would have been disappointed.

 "good idea gone bad" 2010-02-07
By Penn Gname (MA, USA)
The Zeikos battery grip does provide the controls needed to shoot vertical. It also provides the camera's power while the battery it contains is charged. However, once the grip battery dies, you're dead in the water. Despite the fact that my Nikon D300 menu options are correctly set, the grip does not allow the camera's internal battery to take over. When the grip battery dies, the camera shuts down. At that point you either change/charge the battery in the grip OR remove the grip and use the battery in the camera. Either way, the grip has become, basically, an expensive and inconvenient extra battery holder. I can keep an extra battery in my bag for a lot less money and swap it in my camera with a lot less hassle.

I wrote to Zeikos customer service for a fix I was told they couldn't help me - I needed to read my camera manual. Not a lot of help there.

If you are considering this Zeikos grip, be aware that all you are buying is an adapter to shoot vertical. Even then, think about what you'll have to do to remove it when the battery dies (tripod adapter? camera connection cover? etc.) before you decide if it's worth it.

I'll be returning mine.

"Zeiikos Battery base for D700" 2010-01-23
By wbs (Alaska)
Ordered Zeikos base on November 24, 2009. I have only a couple of hundred shots on the camera. Today, my camera was not functional, indicating a low battery. I replaced the battery in the camera and in the Zeikos battery base, and it still indicates low battery, and will not function at all unless I remove the battery base. The battery used in the base indicates 98% when placed directly in the camera and not using the base. This is furnished by DB Roth. They indicate they have a "no return" policy due to low prices, and that I need to deal directly with the manufacturer. I sent an email (January 24, 2010)requesting a refund and an RMA, anyway. We will see what happens next week.

UPDATE: DB Roth offered a refund, minus shipping costs, minus 10% restocking fee (it doesn't work, what is to restock?) They claim it was almost three months old (61 days from time of order placed until time of complaint email.) I said that did not seem reasonable, so they gave me the Zeikos web site address. Also the technical details on this page are INCORRECT. The battery base DOSE NOT hold two batteries. It holds ONE battery, and the other is in your camera in the camera battery holder. Then you must specify in the setup which battery you want to use first.

I buy a lot of aftermarket items. This is the first one I have been burned on. I would recommend you do not buy this one.

 "Great device" 2010-01-10

I'm not sure what the Nikon version has that this doesn't but I did not regret buying this product one bit. I really though the build quality would not be there, but it is.

 "No doubt about it!" 2010-01-08
By Elaine Brisson (Merrimack, NH)

After carefully going over all of the reviews, I purchased the Zeikos battery grip for my Nikon D300S. The camera immediately recognized both the new grip and the EN-EL3e battery. After performing a series of "does it work" functions, I am happy to report that all of the battery grip functions worked perfectly with the camera. Overall, the grip did not add any significant weight to the camera but it did significantly INCREASE THE STABILITY of the camera while in the handheld mode. The exterior of the Zeikos battery grip is a perfect match for the D300S and I suspect it would fool the eye of even the most seasoned pro.

If you are considering the purchase of this accessory for your camera, do not hesitate! There is no doubt in my mind that you will both appreciate and enjoy your decision.
